Fast workflow for Colaiste Dhulaigh College, Ireland

Based in Dublin, Colaiste Dhulaigh College of Further Education has recently purchased seven GY-HM100 and two GY-HM700 camcorders for use in their three-year Communication and Media Production course. Kevin White, Head of the TV Department reveals why JVC's GY-HM series work best for their course.

D“Being one of the largest media training providers in Ireland we pride ourselves in having staff that have and are currently working within the Irish Media industry,” Kevin explains. “This link with industry allows us to have an insight into what skills are required by graduates of our course.

“We originally invested in three JVC GY-HD101 cameras three years ago for use by our graduate year students. These cameras have given excellent service shooting over twenty documentaries,” Kevin continues. “Over the past two years we had been planning a tapeless workflow upgrade. We'd researched all the latest cameras and editing systems available but most of cameras we saw had various workflow or ergonomic issues.”

Colaiste Dhulaigh College, which has provided media training for over twenty five years, is part of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee (CDVEC) who has over forty schools, colleges and training centres throughout Dublin.

“We have to be extremely cautious with our budget, as it is extremely small, so media solutions providers, Eurotek Ireland, gave us a demo of the JVC GY-HM100 and GY-HM700 tapeless cameras the decision was made within 30 minutes of testing the camcorders!” Kevin reveals. “Being able to take the files natively and use them straight away with FCP was a major bonus.”

Colaiste Dhulaigh College purchased seven GY-HM100s for their first and second year students and two GY-HM700s for their final year students, who also have access to the GY-HM100s.

“We now have a completely tapeless HD workflow using JVC Pro cameras, Editshare & FCP. We tend to output to DVD or BluRay,” Kevin adds.
