JVC 3D LCD monitor success in Australia and New Zealand

Sydney, 8 February 2010 – 3D LCD TV pioneer JVC has seen the demand and popularity of its commercially released HD 3D LCD screens grow significantly in recent months. Whilst the world prepares itself for an increasing amount of 3D TV content JVC has been providing stereoscopic display solutions for 3D content creators since early 2009.

JVC 3D LCD screens are currently being used by production and post production houses Australia-wide and are available from specialist JVC 3D resellers including Future Reality, Inition 3D, Jumbovision and Gencom Technology.

“Our most recent sale was to Melbourne-based VFX house Iloura and we have another 6 potential sales this week alone. We are also in discussions to sell 500 JVC 3D LCD screens into India to cover the IPL cricket. Part of the success of the JVC screens is the fact that they are passive not active which makes them cost effective and they use lighter glasses, as well as there being no eye fatigue due to flicker," Inition Managing Director Asia Pacific, Christopher Sutton states. "They also don’t need double the bandwidth to broadcast in stereo, have good image quality and work perfectly as a 2D screen as well. Feedback from clients who have used the screens is very positive. They are delighted with the image quality and comment that the 3D is very effective. CES this year was all about 3D and with the success of Avatar it looks like there will be plenty of content coming down the pipe. As a result, people are wanting the screens far more quickly than was anticipated by many manufacturers. The JVC screens are out there and available now giving them an advantage on active screens still in development. It’s clear now that 3D will move far more quickly into the home than any of us previously thought.”

D“We have sold two screens in New Zealand in the last few weeks alone, one to Digipost and one to Park Road Post and the response has been great. Both are being used in review of stereo shoots for 3D film production and 3D animation," Gencom Technology Sales Specialist Lyndsey Thompson agrees. "Clients are happy with them and I believe most of the larger post houses will purchase them over the next twelve months and the Rugby World Cup will drive some corporate sales too.”

Future Reality Director, David Edgar added, “We utilise the JVC 3D LCD as the primary display when demonstrating our suite of industry leading 3D creation products and have recently supplied another JVC unit which is being used as the on-set preview display for a major new stereo feature currently in production in Queensland.”

JVC’s current 46-inch 3D LCD screen, the GD-463D10, is only 39mm thick and uses JVC’s unique high-quality 3D visual engine to deliver a natural, flicker-free visual experience. The GD-463D10 provides flicker-free 3D images by adopting the Xpol® polarizing filter method and battery-free passive-type circular polarizing filter glasses. Video input is compatible with industry standard line-by-line and side-by-side 3D formats. JVC’s unique 3D decoder circuit translates images into the optimal Xpol display format and demonstrates the ability to accommodate subtle gradations and shades of colour.

JVC Pro National Sales and Marketing Manager Australia/NZ Noel Oakes said, “The demand for these screens is growing at an amazing rate. As a result of the demand and the success of the Avatar 3D game alone, we have just installed a screen at EB Games in Melbourne so gamers can get the full experience before they buy and we have production units available now from all of our JVC 3D resellers.”

JVC have been working on their 3D LCD technology for many years in anticipation of its popularity. Oakes added, “For the first time in the history of the soccer World Cup at this year’s competition up to 25 games will be broadcast in 3D. The next Rugby World Cup will be in 3D and similarly the 2012 Olympics are expected to be broadcast in 3D. Combine this with the success of amazing movies and games like Avatar and the fact that more 3D content for television is being created every day and it’s clear that 3D is going to be huge in 2010.”D

Full HD digital broadcasting and Blu-ray content are emerging as mainstays in the household visual environment while wide-screen and high-resolution images are more popular than ever. In such an environment, as the recent CES show in Las Vegas demonstrated, 3D content is now being looked upon as the next wave in visual entertainment. This is especially true in Hollywood, where the movie industry developed more than twenty 3D movies in 2009 following the establishment of several full-scale 3D movie production and distribution companies in 2008.

JVC also recently announced another world first production tool recently with the introduction of its IF-2D3D1 Stereoscopic Image Processor, which works as a 2D-to-3D converter and as a 3D L/R mixer for video content producers. The IF-2D3D1 is designed to help 3D content producers convert archived 2D material and shoot original content in 3D.

Oakes concluded, “There will be a significant uptake in of 3D LCD screens in people’s living rooms throughout this year as more and more 3D content becomes available. JVC 3D LCD screens already have significant success worldwide including the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology using our screens for its groundbreaking 9-panel immersive visualization system NexCAVE, making it possible for groups of scientists to venture into worlds as small as nanoparticles and as big as the cosmos. We intend to maintain this leading position by further developing and future proofing our 3D LCD screens."
